Windows application won't open

I use version 2.3.16 for Windows daily. Yesterday, I closed it down in the morning and when I went to open it in the afternoon, it would not start. I tried uninstall/reinstall with reboots and had no success. I tried installing 2.3.14 and it would not open. I installed 2.2.6 and it opens successfully. I then upgraded to 2.3.16 and it will not open. I've tried it with anti-virus protection disable. I verified that there were no recent Windows updates installed. Any suggestions? (I am able to open 2.3.16 on a couple of secondary computers I have)

Hi, Have you tried running it as an administrator? (Right click on where you open the program from and choose "Run as administrator". This could be hidden under the More menu). This can sometimes be the cause, although I'm not sure why it would suddenly not work for you when it has before. Jess

I did try running the app as administrator with no luck and also had tried running the install as administrator with no success getting the app to run. :(

Hi, There is a chance that the program is trying to run, but is failing to open your last document for some reason. Are you able to go to this location on your computer: C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Scribble Code\Aeon Timeline 2 where YOURNAME is your computer user name. Rename the RecentFiles.xml file and try opening the program again. If this works, then there is something wrong with the file listed here and it is failing to open it. Jess

Jess, I took another direction before I saw your update but I think I accomplished the same end result. I have a pretty robust backup strategy for my system so I restored the operating system on the C-drive from a couple of days prior to the problem. The app opened my most recent data file with success. Your method probably would have saved a few hours of system restore time! Thanks for the follow up. :)

Hi, I'm glad to hear that you sorted out the problem. If you find you have the same issue again, and renaming that RecentFiles.xml file does fix it, then if you send us through the file it is trying to open to support@aeontimeline.com then we might be able to fix it and work out what went wrong.
