I want to map out the life of a historical figure, starting with her birth date and ending with a significant event several years after her death. So I want to see jus this: 1885 - 1995. I don't want to see anything before 1885, not be able to zoom before that birth year. It is really confusing to be able to zoom years before when I have no plans at all to add anything there. But I can't figure out where exactly in the settings to do that. Any ideas?

You can restrict the scrolling to only occur between events on your timeline - therefore you can't scroll to dates which occur before or after the first and last event you have.
You can do this under Display Settings (the paintbrush icon), then the Scrolling dropdown.
You can create events "Start of timeline" and "End of timeline" if you wish to explicitly set these to 1885 and 1995.
When you do this, you will still be able to see bits of the timeline before and after these dates as you are able to scroll so that they are on the very edge of the screen, however it won't let you scroll indefinitely.
I hope this is helpful for you.
