Definable Time Ranges With Colour Keyed Backgrounds

My suggestion is to allow the user to define an arbitrary period of time which can be colour keyed to the timeline background. The period would have a label which would be shown at the bottom of the screen as shown in the mockup below. I believe this would be very useful when you want to associate a large number of events with a specific time range without having to declare a parent/child relationship. This provides an easy to see visual cue which can tie events to a particular context. Examples: Tracking events across multiple project phases. Tracking events across multiple wars Tracking events across multiple sequential novels Tracking events across geologic eras Restrictions: The time ranges must not overlap or the underlying background is going to confuse/uglify the clean background delineations. Variants: Mostly I want the ability to mark the background by date range. If this means there needs to be a meta event in order to display the shaded regions, so be it. Rather than link to an event or invent something new, perhaps a new entity type could be added where we would specify the range and colour in the entity manager. Hi, Thanks for this suggestion, we agree it is something that looks like it would be useful and will add it to our list of potential features to add in the future. Jess
