Parent events only show elapsed time

When a parent event contains two child events of, say, 1 day each, but there is a five day offset between the children, is there any way to see the parent duration as 2 days (event time) rather than 1 week (elapsed time)? If not, this would be a very useful option to have.

Thinking some more about this, I can see that making parent event durations potentially ambiguous might not be a good move, but there is another approach: if custom properties could reference existing event properties (e.g event duration) then checking “Automatically calculate parent’s value”/Sum in that properties settings would produce what I am looking for as a parent value. I envisage being able to use a specific syntax in an event value field such as <Duration>. There are probably other scenarios in which referencing values could open up possibilities for interesting new relationships. While on the subject of parents, I see that when filtering by a child title, the parent remains visible, whereas when filtering by a parent title, children are hidden, even when expanding the parent. I feel that this is anomalous, and often not what the user wants. Any chance of not hiding children when parents are hits, or at least making this an option? Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for the suggestions. We see how being able to display the total duration of child events for the parent, instead of just the span as it currently is would be helpful, so would consider adding it as a separate property in the future. You are correct that currently children are not displayed if they do not match the filter's properties, however we will consider adding this as an option in the future aswell. Jess
