When describing events on the scale of a large country, it would be very useful to be able to specify time zone offsets, e.g. in the format UTC-8, UTC+1, where UTC or some stand-in would be the timeline's absolute time. Events that happen concurrently in different time zones would have different local times, and these local times would be the ones written below the events, but the events would be placed at the same point in the timeline by using their offset to shift them by a certain number of hours. So a user would be able to see what time it was for two people on a long-distance phone call, for example. Or a user could tell how much time would pass between two places seeing the same sunrise.
Undoubtedly this would also be useful for fantasy timelines, so some amount of customization would be nice too.

We have had requests for this functionality before, and it is something we are considering doing, however it does involve some complex user interface design issues and would likely involve a fair amount of time to implement, so is not something that would be available in the short term.

Neither short, nor long-term, apparently...
Shame, that is also exactly what I would need
